Grand Master Huk PlanasMr. Planas began his Kenpo training in Fresno, California in the late sixties under Steve Labounty and Tom Kelly. He moved to Texas to help Tom Kelly open a school in El Paso in 1969 and then moved to Pasadena, California to go to work for Ed Parker as a Brown Belt.
He received his Black Belt and all subsequent rank through Ed Parker up to Seventh Degree; the highest non-honorary, non-political rank given by Parker in 1985. He became the Manager of the Pasadena school for several years, as well as the Executive Vice President of the International Kenpo Karate Association for the last ten years Ed Parker lived. Throughout this time, Mr. Planas was also instrumental in the development of the original manuals After Parker's passing other associations were formed, one of which promoted Mr. Planas to Eighth Degree in 1991. Then in 1995 several associations joined together to promote him to Ninth Degree Black. Though his expertise is mainly in Kenpo he has studied many other arts, including; Judo, Tai Chi, Kung Fu, Shotokan, and Silat. Today, Mr. Planas draws a crowd, teaching seminars all throughout the United States, including; Alaska, Arizona, California, Connecticutt, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, Washington, and others. There is also a great demand for his expertise internationally, which has taken Mr. Planas to Argentina, Canada, Cayman Isles, Chile, England, Denmark, Greece, Guatemala, Ireland, Italy, Jersey Channel Islands, Patagonia, Spain, and Sweden. In addition to being well traveled, Mr. Planas also has an extensive on-going collection of whips, knives, guns, guitars, mandolins and ukuleles. And of course, he is always keeping his eye out to add to his collection. Known as the "Instructor`s Instructor," Mr. Planas teaches the "whys" of Kenpo, not just the "hows" based on the rules and principals of motion. Not only do school owners have him come to their schools, many often travel to train with him in New Orleans for everything from private lessons to extended training. Mr. Planas is recognized as a 10th Degree Black Belt in American Kenpo. |
Grand Master Frank TrejoMr. Frank Trejo's first experience with fighting began at the age of 7, when he started boxing with the instruction of his grandfather, Tony Dean Pina Jr.
His formal martial arts training began with Shotokan Karate in 1966. Three years later he met and started training with the legendary Ed Parker. Being born and raised in a family of fighters Mr. Trejo was privy to many of the concepts and precepts that Mr. Parker created and devised. It was during the late 70's and through the 80's that Ed Parker would pick Frank Trejo to travel with him for demonstrations, seminars and world tours. As an amateur Kickboxer his record was 14-0. As a Professional Kick boxer, his record was 21-1. He went on to win the California State Kickboxing Title in 1979. He is also an amazing 19 Time International Champion and the first and only Kenpoist to hold the distinction of placing 1st in both Kata and Kumite at the Long Beach International Karate Championships. This feat was accomplished in 1984. In 1985 the corporate world recognized his talent and made him the Coach and Captain of the Budweiser International Karate Team. Throughout his career, he has captured over 400 championships. In 1985, he began a program called, "Creative Physical Fitness". That program changed the lives of many physically, mentally and socially challenged children with the incredible benefits of the Martial Arts. His unique program has been recognized by many national and local television and news organizations. In addition, this program was the first and only one of its kind to be recognized by Los Angeles County School District as an "Exemplary Program for Education". He has also worked as a stunt coordinator and as an actor. Mr. Trejo has instructed or been a bodyguard for Van Halen, Jean Claude Van Damme, Lauren Tewes, Billy Idol, David Lee Roth just to name a few. His films include; Pushed To the Limit, Beyond Fear, Personal Vendetta, Painless George, and Deadly Outbreak. Frank Trejo is recognized as a 10th Degree Black Belt in American Kenpo. |
Master of the Arts Marty ZaninovichLiving in Southern California, Mr. Zaninovich holds a 9th degree Black belt under Mr. Planas.
In addition to his Kenpo training, he is a certified Instructor @ The Inosanto Academy in FMA, JKD and Silat under Mr. Inosanto. With versatile training in several arts, his classes being spirited and energized, transfer information that is textured with cutting edge concepts. This can be exclusive, but not limited to; Kenpo, Filipino Martial Arts, JKD or Silat, also a blend from those Arts and more… The focus is on the whole-being development of each person. |
